LOUDREADERS Trade School returns to Puerto Rico for a series of pedagogical events—workshops and presentations on critical spatial practices—supporting the coalescence of designers, architects, historians, authors, philosophers, planners, scientists, policy makers, activists, and artists working across society and ecology in the Caribbean and its extensions.
Following the success of the summer 2023 edition, the 2026 program ran January 8–16, 2026 in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, free of cost. Outcomes of the projects produced were made part of public publishing platforms and presented through public lectures, workshops, and events, made freely available and accessible online.
Workshops and events will be held in a temporary library/workshop designed by Post-Novis in the Center of the Students at the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. Additional collaborating spaces and organizations include El Boricua, Museo de Historia, Antropología y Arte de Río Piedras, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, Centro de Apoyo Mutuo Jíbaro de Lares.
Enrollment for the program is free and open to the general public, students and professionals across disciplines (and no-disciplines too).
The Trade School is structured in nine days, with each day including Loudreading sessions (with guest speakers presenting theories, ideas, and projects), worldmaking sessions focused on a wide range of topics and destemming sessions for the free flow of ideas, discussions, foods, sounds, and visuals.
Loudreading Sessions are presentations by guest speakers using books, projects, or ideas as starting principles for discussions and exchanges.
Destemming Sessions borrow their name from the repetitive labor of removing the stems from the tobacco leaf in these sessions intended for free discussions and small and large groups over books, music, film, projects, or ideas.
Worldmaking sessions are ‘how-to’ workshops that will result in parts of an overall publication.
